Graduate Sports Research Program

Are you a passionate activist who loves research and making a real difference? Grambling State University graduate students are invited to join The Doug Williams Center’s Graduate Sports Research Program this Fall and Spring semesters for a unique opportunity! Up to two grad students will be selected to partner with Dr. Rodney Blackman on a DWC case study examining the effects of the deconstruction of amateurism in American sports. You’ll work to identify challenges facing Black athletes in America and create a template for success for racially diverse athletes in pre-professional sports programs at HBCUs. We are seeking great researchers, writers, and thinkers to join our dynamic team and receive the following:

  • mentorship and guidance through a targeted graduate research study,
  • peer-reviewed, published research in your name,
  • exclusive access to professional and college sports networking and career opportunities!

Previous research has supported the launch of the nation’s first HBCU gymnastics team as well as the historic restoration of Jim Thorpe’s International Olympic gold medals. We are confident that this research will continue changing the landscape of American sports and building solutions for social advancement.

Fall 2022 application deadline is October 15.
